Thank you so much for being here.
Dear God,
Please help me to sleep.
Thank you.
AMEN
I told you it was a short prayer! :-)
If you had just asked for help with sleep from someone with the power to help you and the desire to help you, how would you feel?
Let yourself rest in a moment of trust.
A moment of trust is powerful as a doorway to give God access.
The following bible verses can serve as prayers for sleep.
Choose and recite a bible verse.
Or choose a line to learn by heart so you
can say it as you lie in bed ready for a good night's sleep.
“In peace I will lie down and sleep,
for
you alone, LORD, make me dwell in safety.”
AMEN
Psalm 4:8, Bible sleep quote
“Though tens of thousands
assail me on every side, I will not fear
You, Lord, are a shield around me,
my glory, the One who lifts my head high.
I call out to the Lord,
and he answers me from his holy mountain.
I lie down and sleep;
I wake again, because the Lord sustains me.”
Psalm 3, Bible prayer for sleep,
The following bible verses are slightly reordered so that the quote ends on the positive of "your sleep will be sweet".
My son, preserve sound judgement and discernment,
do not
let them leave your sight;
…then you will go on your way in safety,
and your foot
will not stumble;
when you lie down you will not be afraid;
when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet.
(Proverbs 3:21, 23-25, NIV, sleep help Bible verse)
Taking you as my guide, I go on my way in safety,
my foot
does not stumble.
When I lie down I am not afraid;
When I lie down, my sleep is sweet.
AMEN

“I awoke and was refreshed,
and my sleep was peaceful.”
(Jeremiah 31:26, Jerusalem, prayer for sleep Bible verse)
“The LORD is my shepherd, I lack nothing.
He makes me lie down in green pastures,
he leads me beside quiet waters,
he
refreshes my soul.”
Psalm 23:1-3, sleep help Bible verse
Love,
my all in all,
You make me lie down in green pastures,
You refresh my soul.
Thank you.
Amen.

“Yes,
my soul, find rest in God;
my hope comes from him.
Truly he is my rock and my
salvation;
he is my fortress, I will not be shaken.
My salvation and my honour
depend on God;
he is my mighty rock, my refuge.
Trust in him at all times,
you people;
pour out your hearts to him,
for God is our refuge.”
(Psalm 92, Bible verse to help heal insomnia)
As I lay my head on the pillow,
I invite my soul to rest in the LOVE that is.
LOVE, in You I trust.
LOVE, in You I rest.
AMEN
The words of a beautiful hymn which asks for blessing throughout the day.
"Lord of all gentleness, Lord of all calm,
Whose voice is contentment, whose presence is balm,
Be there at our sleeping, and give us, we pray,
Your peace in our hearts, Lord, at the end of the day."
Lord of All Gentleness, Lord of All Calm”
Text: Jan Struther (1931)
Tune: SLANE
“Come to me [Jesus], all you who are weary and
burdened,
and I will give you rest.
Take my yoke upon you and learn from me,
for I am gentle and humble in heart,
and you will find rest for your souls.”
(Matthew 11:28-30, Bible prayer for sleep)
You give me rest.
I find rest for my soul.
Thank you.
AMEN
"Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest."
Mark 6:31
Jesus, I come with you.
I come alone.
I enter a quiet place with you.
I find rest. AMEN
My dear Christian friend, Tina, recommends the following prayer for sleep in the form of a mantra.
"I find it helps me to do a body scan, starting at my feet and
working upwards, saying to each part of my body
"Relax and sleep in the
name of the Lord."
I rarely get as far as my head!"
And this prayer is from Tina too...
Dear
God, you know the reason why we are not sleeping. We place it into your
hands now.
If it is brain chemistry, we ask you to heal and balance it.
If the body is wired, we ask you to heal and calm it.
If the mind is in
turmoil, we ask you to heal it and bring it to peace.
We rest into your
presence now
and receive your healing love and restful sleep.
Amen
A prayer for sleep opens you to an immediate answer - a good night's sleep :-)
Please remember the answer to prayer may also be to find something practical you can do to that leads you to sleep well.
Dear
God,
Please give me a good night's sleep.
I ask for guidance. If needed, guide me to a person, recording, book, natural healing supplement, or anything I need in order to sleep well.
Remind me of those things I know which help me.
If I find any of the words in this faith article helpful, let me remember them
or return to them.
Sleep is not something I make happen.
I allow it to happen.
I hand over this night to you.
I trust that you will guide me to sleep increasingly well.
I have done what I can.
By asking for guidance, I have done all that needs to be done.
Thank you that I fall asleep as soon as I put my head on the pillow.
Thank you for a good night's sleep.
Thank you that I wake up feeling refreshed.
Amen
If you are not sleeping you may be tempted to give yourself a hard time.
You may even feel that insomnia is a punishment.
Let these thoughts be as they are and let new thoughts take their place.
A sleepless night is not your fault.
A sleepless night is not a punishment.
Nothing can separate you from God.
“Rather, as servants of God we commend ourselves in every
way:
in great endurance;
in troubles, hardships and distresses...
in hard work, sleepless nights and hunger...
with weapons of righteousness in the right hand and in the left;
through glory and dishonour, bad report and good report;
genuine, yet regarded as impostors;
known, yet regarded as unknown;
dying, and yet we live on;
beaten, and yet not killed;
sorrowful, yet always rejoicing;
poor, yet making many rich;
having nothing, and yet possessing everything.”
(2 Corinthians 6:3, NIV, sleep help Bible verse)
“On my bed I remember you;
I think of you through the watches of the night.
Because you are my help,
I sing in the shadow of your wings.
My soul clings to you;
your right hand upholds me.” (Psalm 63:6-8,
NIV)
"Let
the morning bring me word of Your unfailing love,
for I have put my
trust in You.
Show me the way I should go." (Psalm 143:8)
Trouble sleeping can mean trouble getting to sleep or it can mean waking in the night and having trouble getting back to sleep.
One of the causes of insomnia can be symptoms or pain from chronic illness.
I love that the psalms give us permission to have a moan!
"Be
merciful to me, Lord, for I am faint;
O Lord, heal me, for my bones are in agony.
My soul is in anguish.
How long, O Lord, how long?
Turn, O Lord, and deliver me;
save me because of your unfailing love.”
(Psalm 6, NIV, Bible quote when not sleeping)
If I am awake in the night I let my mind feel the comfort of a familiar prayer repeated.
God, I feel you here with me.
Time in the awareness of your company is time well spent.
AMEN
In the following Bible quote I have changed 'you' to 'I' to make it a prayer.
Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most
High
will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.
I will say of the LORD,
“He is my refuge and my fortress,
my God, in whom I
trust.” ...
He will cover me with his feathers,
and under his wings I will find refuge;
his faithfulness will be my shield and rampart.
I will not fear the terror of night,
nor the arrow that flies by day.”
(Psalm 91:1-5, sleep help Bible verse)
My God, in you I trust.
I find peace.
Amen.

One of the things that may keep you awake in the night is the worry that you will be too tired to function the next day.
Remember you are not alone in what you do.
Press into God, Love.
You can afford to get tired at times because you are not relying on your own strength.
"Hast thou not known?
hast thou not heard,
that the
everlasting God, the LORD,
the Creator of the ends of the earth,
fainteth not,
neither is weary?
(Isaiah 40:28, KJV Bible quote about tiredness)
There is a lovely hymn based on the above. Find the link below. Here are some of the words....
"You are the everlasting God,
the everlasting God,
You don't grow faint
You don't grow weary"
Here is more hopefulness :-)
“At night there are tears,
but joy comes with dawn.”
(Psalm 30:5, Jerusalem, Bible quote to heal insomnia)
“As for me, I will behold Your face in righteousness;
when I awake, I will be satisfied in Your presence.”
(Psalm 16 -Catholic, Psalm 17-Protestant Bible)
Dear Love,
If I have any worries as I lie here, I hand them over to you.
My remembering of you IS the solution.
Amen.
If you feel stressed by not sleeping it is very helpful to remember that rest - lying still and relaxed - gives many of the same benefits as sleep.
You are doing your best.
Move here for prayers for relaxation.
Getting to sleep isn’t something you can make yourself do.
It isn’t something where
‘trying hard’ can help.
Sleep is natural. You can do the following.
This has parallels with the spiritual experience. The spiritual
experience is natural. We can't make ourselves have a spiritual experience. But
we can put conditions in place that make it more likely.
We can engage in our chosen spiritual practice, be it prayer, blessing,
forgiveness, or repeating spiritual quotes from a holy book.
God's love is always available. When we get out of our own way, we receive a revelation of this love.
Put everything in place to make sleep most likely, and then
hand it over.
Surrender.
The same applies to the rest of your life.
Whether you don’t sleep so well or you sleep wonderfully
tonight, love yourself and approve of yourself as you are....
More importantly,
stay open to the knowledge that Love itself loves you.
I say a little prayer for sleep for all of you who visit here.
Please say it for myself and others.
(It is also in the image above.)
I place you in the hands of Love.
May you sleep well,
May your sleep be refreshing,
May you wake feeling recharged, re-Sourced and ready to face the day.
AMEN
