Spiritual love in the Bible is presented as a love on which we can rely.
If God's love depended on what we did or said, it would vary between each one of us.
Instead, spiritual love has to do with God.
And so, it does not change.
The sun shines, God loves.
"How precious is your unfailing love, O God!"
(Psalm 36:7, spiritual love in the Bible)
“Since thou wast precious in my sight,
thou hast been honourable, and I have
loved thee:
therefore will I give men for thee, and people for thy life.”
(Isaiah
43:4, KJV)
To be a receiver of love is to bring an important gift into this world.
Dear God,
I let you speak. I hear you say,
“you are precious and honoured in my sight, and... I love you...”
Thank you. I receive your love. AMEN
“But because of his great love for us,
God, who is rich in mercy... raised us
up with Christ
and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus.”
(Ephesians 2:4,6, KJV)
“Know therefore that the LORD your God is God;
he is the faithful God,
keeping his covenant of love to a thousand generations of those who love
him and keep his commandments.”
(Deuteronomy 7:9, Old Testament The Bible)
In this context thousands means 'forever'.
But I like the fact that even though this was possibly written 6000 years ago, here in the 21st century we are still living less than a thousand generations since that time.
You are my God.
You are faithful.
You have made a promise of love to me.
You keep your promise.
With your grace, I keep communication open between us.
I am willing to receive the love you want me to receive.
With thanks and praise.
Amen
"You, Lord, are a compassionate and gracious God,
slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness."
(Psalm 86:15, spiritual love in the Bible verse)
If I have an image of you as an unloving God, I am willing to doubt it now.
My doubt opens me to the truth of you.
I receive your compassion.
I receive your abounding love.
I receive your faithfulness.

The following is a prayer for us from St Paul.
And from me to you.
Please pray it for me also.
"I pray that you, being rooted and established in love,
may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people,
to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ…."
(Ephesians

Without Love we are missing the point of a life lived in a physical body. Spiritual love is what we are here to receive and give.
We are given a spirit of Love from God.
"God hath not given me the spirit of fear
but of POWER,
and of LOVE,
and of A SOUND MIND"
(2 Timothy 1:7, KJV, Bible verse to replace fear with love)
God, you have given me
a spirit of power
and of love
and of a sound mind.
I choose to believe that this is what you have given me.
I choose to believe your God-given qualities can never be taken from me.
I claim them now.
I have a spirit of power
and of love
and of a sound mind.
Amen
When we receive spiritual love, we own it as part of our spiritual identity and we have love available to give.
St Paul again:
"And now I will show you the most excellent way.
If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love,
I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal.
If I have the gift of prophecy
and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge,
and if I have a faith that can move mountains,
but have not love, I am nothing.
If I give all I possess to the poor
and surrender my body to the flames that I may boast,
but have not love, I gain nothing."
(1 Corinthians 12:31, NIV)
The following references to spiritual love in the Bible are often taken as an aspiration for our own ability to love.
For me, it is more useful to see these powerful love quotes as describing God’s love for us.
They convey a perfect love which we can
only touch by knowing ourselves in God.
In this world, it is often appropriate to hold someone accountable for a wrong behaviour.
It is sometimes appropriate to give up on a relationship with someone rather than persevere.
However,
we can still know that whatever they do, a person - whether another or ourselves -
continues to be loved by God who holds no record of wrongs.
In a moment when we rest in God, regardless of the fickleness of our human feelings, as our spiritual selves, we represent this love.
As you read these bible verses feel yourself in the presence of a spiritual love that holds you safe.
"Love is patient, love is kind.
It does not envy,
it does not boast,
[Love] is not proud.
It is not rude,
it is not self-seeking,
[Love] is not easily angered,
it keeps no record of wrongs.
Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.
It always protects,
always trusts,
always hopes,
always perseveres.
Love never fails.
But where there are prophecies, they will cease;
where there are tongues, they will be stilled;
where there is knowledge, it will pass away.
For we know in part and we prophesy in part,
but when perfection comes, the imperfect disappears.
When I was a child, I talked like a child,
I thought like a child, I reasoned
like a child.
When I became a man, I put childish ways behind me.
Now we see but a poor reflection as in a mirror;
then we shall see face to
face.
Now I know in part;
then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.
And now these three remain: faith, hope and love.
But the greatest of these is
love.
(1 Corinthans 13:1-13, NIV)
In God's unfailing love I am
protected,
trusted in,
and hoped in.
Through anything I do or don't do, I am persevered with.
And so I have a relationship on which I can rely.
And so I rest. AMEN
With our prayer to feel God's love and our prayer to love God comes our willingness to love others.
Jesus’ two main commandments are as follows:
“Thou shalt
love the Lord thy God with all thy heart,
and with all thy soul,
and with all
thy mind.
This is the first and great commandment.
And the second is like unto it,
Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.”
(Matthew 22:37-39, KJV)
“Everyone that loveth is born of God,
and knoweth God.
He that loveth not knoweth not God;
for God is love.” (1
John 4:7-8, KJV)
Dear God let me feel your love so deeply,
and fill up on your love so fully
that your love overflows onto others in my life.
I set aside any need for my feelings to conform.
I focus on a certain person whilst knowing your love for me. It is enough.

Since God is Love, we can replace other words for God in the Bible with the word Love.
Interesting revelations and insights are received.

becomes
"Love is my Shepherd".
We are led by Love.
