Receiving spiritual love is the essence of the spiritual journey.
We are called to love God.
We can do this by first receiving spiritual love.
“We love him, because he
first loved us.”
(1 John 4:19, KJV )
We can start by being willing.
The Bible story of the prodigal son is a powerful story to encourage us to feel God's love.
“When [the son] came to his senses, he said,
‘How many of my father’s hired men have food to spare, and here I am starving to death! I will set out and go back to my father and say to him:
Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you.
I am no longer worthy to be called your son;
make me like one of your hired men.’
So he got up and went to his father.
“But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him;
he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him.”
(Luke 15:17-20, NIV, The bible story of the son who leaves and returns)
When our life is lacking in love (or anything else), we may see this as an indication of God's lack of love. We may feel unloved.
We can resist and refute this belief.
We
can
choose to believe that on some level we have chosen and are choosing this life of a lack of love. (We are choosing to stay away.)
We can choose to believe that in God's presence we are likely to receive more than when we go it alone.
We may anticipate anger or rejection but we can choose to turn to God anyway.
Our reward is the spiritual experience. As we move towards God, God moves towards us. We feel God's love - the kiss on the neck :-)
God welcomes our return.
We let ourselves know how it feels to feel loved and be celebrated.
We connect with our Self who never left and who has always had and will always have God's love and all that is good.
Dear God,
Let me remember that I need to turn to you.
When I do so, I experience you as moving towards me.
Any time I show up, you welcome me.
I let myself feel your love.
I let myself receive your celebration of me.
I connect with my Self who has never left you,
who has always had
and will always have your love.
Of myself I am nothing.
But this Self is who I am.
In this Self I am part of you, part of All That Is.
Amen

Here is a powerful bible quote about how we really have no choice but to receive God's love. We LIVE IN THAT LOVE.
“... seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him,
though he is not far from any one of us.
‘For in him we live and move and have our being.’
As some of your own poets have said,
‘We are his offspring.’”
(Acts 17, NIV Bible verse about God's love)
In your love
I live
I move
I have my being.
And so it is.
AMEN
My being is Love.
Your being is Love.
This is how it is.
In a moment when we feel God's love or feel love for God, fear is absent.
“There is no fear in love;
but perfect
love casteth out fear...”
(I John, 4:18, KJV)
Difficult situations sometimes turn around or reveal an unexpected gift.
“…the LORD thy God turned the curse into a blessing unto thee, because the LORD thy God loved thee.”
(Deuteronomy 23:5, KJV)
The desire to please our parent comes naturally to us.
We may feel we have never succeeded.
A prayer to feels Gods love opens us to the experience of God or Love as our parent, our authorship, the one we look to for guidance
With God as our parent we can have the pleasure of pleasing.
In the following Bible verse Jesus has a moment of feeling God's love. We are all God's children.
I believe we can all have these moments of baptism. For a moment, we understand that we are so inherently of God that on some level we are always pleasing to the divine.
“As soon as Jesus was baptised, he went up out of the water.
At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and lighting on him.
And a voice from heaven said,
“This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.”” (Matthew 3:17, NIV)
We experience being a delight to God, and being a cause for rejoicing.
“The Lord your God is with you,
he is mighty to save.
He will take great delight in you,
he will quiet you with his love,
he will rejoice over you with singing.” (Zepheniah 3:17, NIV)
God, I feel your delight in me.
Your love is a quiet place in which I rest.
You sing to me. I feel you rejoice in me.
Amen
God's love guides us
A moment in which we feel God's love is often followed by insight or revelation.
“In your unfailing love you will lead
the people you have redeemed.
In your strength you will guide them
to your holy dwelling.”
(Exodus 15:1,11, NIV Bible verse prayer for love and strength)
In your unfailing love you lead me.
You have redeemed me.
In your strength you guide me to live in you.
AMEN

A prayer to feel God's love is to rest for a moment from this world.
We can do this throughout each day.
About Benjamin he said:
“Let the beloved of the LORD rest secure in him,
for he shields him all day long,
and the one the LORD loves rests between his shoulders.”(Deuteronomy 33:12, NIV)
We rest shielded and secure in you. AMEN
Whether or not we feel God's love, with belief in that love we can practice love for God.
"And we know that in all things God works
for the good of those who love him."
(Romans 8:28, Bible prayer to feel God's love)
This situation may not look good to me.
But I love you God.
You are a big God.
As I hand over this situation to you,
I feel a quiet trust.
You are too big to be absent from my life.
All things are working for good.
With thanks. Amen
