We may think of drawing on spiritual strength as a last resort.
We may even feel guilty for needing or asking for help.
But we are NOT SUPPOSED to rely on our own strength.
A
time of illness and physical weakness is a perfect opportunity to learn to draw on a
strength that does not feel like our own, only to find out
1) This strength is
our entitlement.
2) This is the only real strength there is.
"Those who wait on the Lord
will renew their strength.
They shall mount up with wings like eagles,
They shall run and not be weary,
They shall walk and not faint."
(Isaiah 40:31, spiritual strength quote from the Bible)
Dear God,
I wait upon you.
And so I renew my strength.
I mount up with wings like eagles',
I run and I am not weary,
I walk and I do not faint.
I praise you for Your strength in me.
I thank you for Your strength in me.
AMEN
“But we
have this treasure in jars of clay to show that
this all-surpassing power is
from God and not from us.
We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed;
perplexed, but not in despair;
persecuted, but not abandoned;
struck down, but not destroyed.”
(2 Corinthians 4:7-9, NIV)
Dear Love itself,
It feels like my body has let me down.
But maybe this is an opportunity to know that
I am not my body.
I am Spirit - part of you.
This situation invites me to learn to know this.
Even in my weakness I choose to say
"In You, I am strong."
Even if the words seem empty to me,
I trust you will fill them and show me their reality.
Thank you. AMEN
A prayer for strength for all who visit here.
I speak STRENGTH into the lives of all who read this.
All who read this, I invite you to join minds with me to RECEIVE the God given strength that is your entitlement and my entitlement.
God you ARE my strength.
AMEN
In a time of illness, we may feel so frustrated because we can't take the action we would like to take. But the next quote for spiritual strength makes it clear that our strength is found in repentance and rest, in quietness and trust. Chronic illness or pain can lead us to spend time in stillness and silence, and give us the chance to cultivate these qualities.
“In repentance and rest is your salvation,
in quietness and
trust is your strength,
but you would have none of it.
You said, ‘No, we will flee on horses.’
Therefore you will flee!
You said, ‘We will ride off on swift horses.’
Therefore your pursuers will be
swift!
A thousand will flee at the threat of one;
at the threat of five you will all
flee away...”
(Isaiah 30:15-17, NIV)
“… guilty men, whose own strength is their
god.”
(Habakkuk 1:11, NIV)
“You say, ‘I am rich; I have
acquired wealth and do not need a thing.’
But you do not realise that you are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind and naked.”
(Revelation 3:17, NIV)
Wow! Those are powerful quotes to indicate that we are not strong on our own and not supposed to be strong on our own.
What we think of us our strength is often just us playing the games of this world.
Our spiritual strength IS our strength.
“Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from
me.
But he said to me,
“My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” ...
That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses,
in insults,
in
hardships,
in persecutions,
in difficulties.
For when I am weak, then I am strong.”
(2 Corinthians 12:7-9,10, NIV)
Dear God,
I plead with you to take this from me.
If this doesn't happen, I know this is a situation in which I am called to be right now.
I choose to know Your grace is sufficient for me,
In a time of weakness I realise that my power is not from me.
In a time of weakness I realise that my power is from You.
My power is made perfect.
In You I am strong.
AMEN
“Moses was a hundred and twenty years old
when he died,
yet his eyes were not weak nor his strength gone.”
(Deuteronomy 34:7, NIV)
“Be strong and courageous,
because you will
lead these people to inherit the land I swore to their forefathers to give them.
Be strong and very courageous.”
(Joshua 1:6-7, NIV)
I don't know why, but I find the repetition of strong and courageous in this Bible verse particularly powerful and delightful.
“I
can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.”
(Philippians 4:13, KJV)
"Beat your plowshares into swords, and your pruninghooks into spears: let the weak say, I am strong."
(Joel 3:10, KJV)
Here is a spiritual strength quote from the book A Course In Miracles ACIM.
“The lion and the lamb lying down together
symbolize that strength and innocence are not in conflict,
but naturally live
in peace.
"Blessed are the pure in heart for they shall see God"
is another way of saying the same thing.
A pure mind knows the truth and this is its strength.
It does not confuse destruction with innocence
because it associates innocence with strength,
not with weakness.”
(T-3.I.5)

"One thing that struck me was the stripping of ego in the work. Most of us have a comfy ego façade, but weakness and disease tore Katherine’s away. The poems in Be Loved Beloved come from the heart."
