This prayer for a terrorist may shock some of you.
“Katherine,” you may ask, “How can you invite me to pray for a terrorist?! Don’t
you see the damage they have done? They have destroyed my life.”
Please know that I don’t expect someone who has lost a loved
one in a terrorism attack to be able to say this prayer.
Some may however choose to do so in the hope of moving towards a greater sense of peace and acceptance.
I know that some others among you will also feel unable to say it.
But for those who can say this spiritual prayer, please do so.
If we are
asking for world peace we are holding a vision for a world with less terrorism.
Saying this prayer for a terrorist (or an invader) is an important contribution to help to bring that about.
I return to this article at the time of the invasion of the Ukraine.
Along with any other intention, I invite you to pray it with Putin in mind.
We join minds in holding a vision of
peace for the Ukraine.

If you believe that love has the power to heal and transform, then it is wise to pray for one who contemplates violence to receive love.
Dear God,
I speak Love into the life of anyone who is contemplating an act of violence.
Give this person a revelation of your Love.
May they receive
a profound experience of connection with You and therefore with all their fellow human beings.
In this revelation may they drop any feeling of wanting to hurt another.
Please heal this person of any pain that might cause them to act out.
Bring into their life people who give them love and wise guidance.
We choose to believe that underneath the surface of the circumstances, your Love endures forever.
We rest for a moment in the belief that in a way we cannot yet understand 'All is Well'.
I join my mind with anyone praying this prayer with me.
Thank you God. Amen.
We take from another when they have something we do not have. And we believe that we are entitled to what they have.
This can reveal the belief that we don't have enough. For example, not enough power, or energy, or money, or status.
The one who is 'taken from' in this way is also likely to end up feeling a sense of lack.
Dear Love itself,
Please heal this person of a sense of lack.
If this lack leads them to feel entitled to 'take' from the other to redress the balance, guide them to think again.
I speak into this person's life a sense of PROVISION.
Please heal me of a sense of lack.
I speak into my own life a sense of PROVISION.
Regardless of circumstances, I speak into my own life a sense of being ENOUGH.
Regardless of circumstances, I speak into my own life a sense of having ENOUGH.
On behalf of all others, and on my own behalf,
I RECEIVE from you.
In a way I do not need to fully understand, Love is without limits.
All minds are connected.
By receiving Love I make it more available to others.
There is PLENTY for me and PLENTY for all.
I do my part. I receive.
Thank you that in YOU I am enough.
Amen
A sense
of being excluded can feed radicalisation.
If the sense
of being excluded leads someone to carry out a violent attack then it becomes self fulfilling.
The response of victims of an attack is quite naturally to label the attacker as being ‘the other’ and to exclude them.
Dear Love itself,
Please heal this person...
of any sense of being attacked by you.
of any sense of alienation from you.
Let them feel your peace.
Let them feel their belonging with you.
Please heal me...
of any sense of being attacked by you.
of any sense of alienation from you.
Let me feel your peace.
Let me feel my belonging with you.
In you, we are all connected, all One.
We belong.
Amen
To be clear, I'm not saying that you shouldn't feel attacked if you are being attacked.
For example, I completely understand and validate any Ukrainian feeling attacked at the time of writing!
Instead, it's a holding to the spiritual truth, that on some deep level, "all is well".
Inside ourselves we are likely to have developed a voice that attacks us. We can train ourselves to switch from taking our guidance from that voice to taking guidance from the voice for God the voice for love.
A prayer for a terrorist can be thought of as a prayer to accept the terrorist inside ourselves and choose to take away the authority we have given it to sabotage our lives.
As we choose the voice for peace, peace enters our internal world and ripples out into the external world.
Below I share a
prayer for a terrorist that affirms our unity with the innocent
victims of a terrorist attack.
It also affirms our unity with the attackers, perpetrators, terrorists (and
freedom-fighters).
Dear
God,
I choose to believe that I do not need to hide from you.
Your Love reaches me just as I am.
I look head-on at a conflict I experience with someone in the world, small or big.
I invite you into this conflict.
I invite you to dissolve it.
I am willing to see an internal conflict - a way in which I attack myself.
I offer you this internal conflict.
Instead of listening to the voice that criticises me or repeating the voices of others that criticise me,
I choose to listen to you.
I shift focus from the part whose messages to me and about me are in opposition to your own.
I look to you to be my authority.
I look to you to define me.
This internal conflict dissolves.
I do not
need to see it played out in the world.
I hold a vision for peace.
Peace in my mind.
Peace in the world.
Amen
Both in the Bible and A Course In Miracles, we are asked to shift our focus from trying to change the world through physical means and instead asked to be transformed by the renewing of our mind.
Dear God,
We offer you our minds and our hearts as gateways through which your peace
enters the world.
Even if the world invites us to hate, we hold a place for Love.
Even if the world seems to reject us, we take comfort that we are accepted by
you.
Even if the world seems to make us separate and different, still we choose to
know that we are One.
Even if we feel attacked, we choose to believe that we are held safely in your
all embracing Love.
Thank you that you are, and that nothing else is.
Thank you that nothing is impossible to you.
We hold a vision for peace.
Amen.

"One thing that struck me was the stripping of ego in the work. Most of us have a comfy ego façade, but weakness and disease tore Katherine’s away. The poems in Be Loved Beloved come from the heart."
